Moog Music debuts new performance space and local music showcase, Aha Avl; Asheville hip-hop duo Two Fresh first up

Moog Music on Tuesday unveiled a great new in-house performance space at its new location on Broadway and kicked off  a new local music showcase dubbed Aha Avl. The Asheville hip-hop duo Two Fresh was first up, and delivered one fine set.

Aha Avl is a Moog experiment aimed at showing off all the great local talent we have right here in Asheville. Moog plans to host one performance a month. It’s a great idea, and a great way for the business to support local musicians.

The space is small – just about 60 or 75 people can comfortably fit. But what a space it is. Tricked out with all the coolest Moog technology, the room sports the best damn sound system in all of Asheville. The booming, bone-rattling sound was tuned just right Tuesday to show off the Two Fresh beats while not shattering a listener’s ears.

Two Fresh, who I first saw last year at Moogfest, is preparing to head out on a big national tour that will certainly up their exposure. And they’re a great story – young twin brothers, and a drummer, with badass beats. I’m looking for big things from these guys. More from www.twofreshbeats.com:

Combining an array of influences and a diverse musical background, Two Fresh’s sound is difficult to describe but impossible to ignore. Built on a foundation of instrumental hip hop, their music seamlessly incorporates elements of sampling, a tight low end and catchy synth lines, with a strong beat always at the cornerstone.
On stage, audiences are treated to the addition of Colby Buckler, regarded as one of the strongest drummers in the live electronic music scene today. This energetic trio continues to bring exciting new performances to crowds across the country as their sound naturally evolves.
Before twin brothers Kendrick and Sherwyn Nicholls even turned 21, Two Fresh had already landed a label signing with 1320 Records on the merit of extensive successful touring across the east coast. Within a short few months, their first album “The Baker’s Dozen” was released to their devoted fan base.
Fast forward to 2011 and Two Fresh has already graced the lineups of multiple major US festivals including SXSW, Electric Daisy Carnival, Wakarusa, Starscape and North Coast.
