Milk prices crash; how will WNC dairy farmers fare?

Share

NPR said this morning that the price of milk is crashing because the global market is over-supplied. The base price paid to farmers for a gallon of milk is set to drop to 97 cents a gallon. Retail prices are expected to drop, but not nearly as far.

The price drop is killing U.S. dairy farmers. This price drop may be the final death blow of what’s left of the dairy industry in the mountains.

Milk? Been years. Loved it as a kid though.

A little cream in my coffee each morn, yogurt too.

Sigh. Precious few moo-cows left in Buncombe County. You can spy a few on Pond Road; mind the curves or you may be among ’em.
