Michelle Williams and her ‘Asheville fantasy’

It’s only been a few months since the death of Heath Ledger, so there’s still a lot of people dealing with the loss of him, including the mother of his child. Michelle Williams met Heath on the set of Brokeback Mountain (she played his wife in the movie). They fell famously in love and had a daughter, now age 2.

In an interview in the April edition of Elle, Williams opens up about herself. The interview was conducted before the news of Ledger’s death, which makes it all the more poignant. The interview notes that Williams got her acting career kicked into high gear while working on the North Carolina set of the television show Dawson’s Creek.

Here’s the Ashvegas connection:

The road there led from her birthplace, Kalispell, Montana, to San Diego, where she was home-schooled, to Hollywood, where at 15 she emancipated herself and was quickly cast, along with Busy Philipps and Katie Holmes, on the cult teen drama. At 16, she was living in North Carolina filming Dawson’s Creek, and “I thought I was going to get married there to this boy, Andy, who was in this indi band called the Comas,”Williams says, bemused. “I had a big Asheville fantasy up and running for awhile.”

She says that when she heard the news that Holmes was dating Tom Cruise, “I was shocked. Busy called and said, ‘You’re never going to believe who Katie’s with now.’ And I’m like, ‘Who?’ And she said, ‘Who’s the biggest movie start that you can think of?’ I said – this is embarrassing – ‘Tom Selleck?!'”
