Menage singer Sarah and her ‘mater music

In a fun little tidbit from the WLOSer news, John Le had a nice story on Sarah McDonald of the local band Menage and how she wrote a ditty about summer that’s been picked up in a national advertising campaign.

Sarah wrote the tune, which she titled “Tomatoes,” back in 2003 while trying to battle through some writer’s block. She told Le she started writing about summer, then asked herself what she liked about summer. It was ‘maters, she decided, and was off and running.

The band’s former manager sent the tune out to several ad agencies. Somebody finally bit – Hunt’s signed a yearl-long contract to use the tune in a new national ad campaign, Le said. Le talked about how the song had to “ripen into something special” and noted the “slice of musical inspiration” that led to this latest development.

Some nice recognition for one of our local babes. Way to go!

It was also used in a local ad campaign for Smart Start of Buncombe County a few years back-it was a perfect song for school readiness.
