Mela was also voted Asheville’s overall Favorite Restaurant in the 2008 and 2009 Mountain Xpress Readers’ Polls. Most food at the restaurant is prepared from scratch on the premises, using local and organic ingredients as much as possible. Mela is certified by the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project for using food produced by local farmers.
Owners Anoop Krishnan and Cathy Cambron’s children attended Isaac Dickson before moving on to Asheville Middle School and Asheville High School. The family is excited to stay connected with the school by continuing their support for Isaac Dickson, especially by contributing to the outdoor garden at Dickson. We hope you’ll consider dining out for Dickson on Wednesday, October 13, which is a half day at the school (Early Release Date). This will be a wonderful way to get together with your family and members of the Dickson community, knowing that 20 percent of the proceeds from your lunch or dinner will go to the school. Monies raised from this event will support experiential education throughout the school year. Hands-on learning at Dickson is proven to engage students in critical thinking and problem solving by integrating various subjects, including language arts, science, and math, into activities that help children learn by doing.
Mela Indian Restaurant is at 70 North Lexington Avenue, Asheville, 828-225-8800.
