If everything went according to schedule, former Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford had back surgery on Monday and is recuperating. In his sentencing hearing last week, Medford was allowed two weeks of recovery before being required to report to the federal Bureau of Prisons on Oct. 28. Medford was found guilty of corruption in federal court earlier this year and was sentenced to 15 years in prison last week.
Meantime, federal prosecutors say they’re still working on their gambling investigation.
