Yeah, so, is Dennis W. Howard deceased???? I can't find any info on the guy anywhere! I agree with Ricky, though: D.W. could be a royal pain in the rear on any given day. SO puffed up with self-importance! Still, it was through him that I obtained my complete run of "The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor," which is my favorite series of all time.

Anyone remember when he had "Super Giant" located on Merrimon Ave. near The Hop? Those were the days! Remember that strange little woman who worked for him back then? When was that, 1984 or so????

God, I hated Super Giant.

"No Thumbing Please!"

No disrespect to the deceased, but that guy acted like his customers were handling fragile relics from the 15th Century rather than mass-produced pieces of paper held together by three staples. Went there once as a kid when it was on Tunnel Road and never went back.

SKYCON was the name of a few of the comic conventions in Asheville in the early 80’s, but I don’t think D.W. was solely responsible for them. Also, I don’t know if D.W.’s absence is due to "arrogance" or the fact that the guy is deceased. Is he still alive? I remember him as being a heavy smoker….

Yes. D.W. Howard is missed. Just another example of arrogance run rampant in our fair city.

That’s a pretty insulting poster! I’ve been going to comic and SF conventions in Asheville since the 1970s. Yes, I remember D.W. Howard and his SuperGiant events and others as well.

These people owe Asheville fandom in general and all those who have put on conventions here over the years specifically a sincere and public apology.

I was thinking the same thing. Yes, I went to several of the Super Giant shows. They were small, but usually interesting. I miss the Super Giant store…

This is not "Asheville’s First Comic / Art Convention". Anybody remember D.W. Howard and his SuperGiant comics events ?

Wow… I’m so excited! Does anyone know if there’s going to be any good speakers or artists there? I think Asheville is perfect for a Comicon event.
