The one guy from the super-talented Tar Heels national championship squad that nobody really seems to be talking about much as we approach the NBA draft is Jawad Williams. ‘Wad, the behind-the-scenes leader of the crew, the guy who started ahead of Marvin Williams, one of the guys who stuck it out through the lean Doherty years.
Here’s a story about Jawad looking for some respect. I think Jawad has potential, but to be frank, he was never really strong with the ball down low, and he didn’t shoot enough treys for scouts to get a bead on how consistent a long-ball shooter he is.
Jawad had decent numbers, averaging 13 points and 4 rebounds a game. He’s eighth on Carolina’s scoring list with 1,628 career points. He’s 6-foot-7, 218 pounds. He’s more mature than Marvin Williams and could probably handle playing – right now- at the next level better than Marvin.
I feel bad for the guy. He was a solid player. But will he go in the first round? I doubt it.
