It’s official: Jason Boyer returns to WLOS as chief meteorologist

Share

Back on Sept. 3 I blogged that former WLOSer and weather soothsayer Jason Boyer had the inside line on being hired back as the new WLOS chief meteorologist. Yesterday, we received confirmation via the WLOSer Twitter feed. Here’s the tweet:
WLOS_ABC13 News 13 is pleased to welcome Jason Boyer back to the mountains as our new Chief Meteorologist. Jason starts on the air on October 5.
Boyer will replace current chief meteorologist Mike Cuevas.

From my previous post:

Jason Boyer worked for WLOS for 18 months in 2002-03. I don’t know how old he was, but he looked like a teen-ager and may even have had braces at the time. His on-air personality was enthusiastic and he seemed to truly geek-out on the weather, which I respect.

Boyer is now forecasting the weather for KWGN in Denver, which is a big market and which has probably served as a great training ground for him. I’m getting word that he may have the inside track on replacing Cuevas. Can anyone confirm that he’s applied for job?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Who would you like to see become WLOS’ chief meterologist?

You can follow Boyer on Twitter here.

His Linked-In resume is here.

Welcome back, Mr. Boyer. We look forward to your weather reporting.

Sure miss Jason, what a great loss in Denver!! Enjoyed his weather so much now I am back to flipping around.

I, too, was wondering what happened to Jason. He’s one of the brightest, quick-witted weather personalities I’ve seen in a long time. We absolutely miss him on The Deuce here in Denver. Good luck, Jason. And, if the people in North Carolina don’t appreciate you, we’ll always welcome you back to the Denver area.

I am saddened that Jason has left Denver. He is a good weatherman. I knew he got married in the late summer and was back on the air after his honeymoon, but I didn’t even know he had left. They never even made an announcement. Our loss is your gain. Good Luck to you Jason. You will be missed in Denver for sure.

I wondered where Jason went. One day he was doing the weather and the next day he wasn’t and no one said anything. He is a huge loss. The Denver station was bought by Fox and they have been getting rid of many of their experienced personnel in favor of inexperienced and cheap new ones who are terrible. Joason, good luck there, we will miss you.

Sad to see Jason is leaving us here in the Mile High City….we’ve been missing him in the A.M. Good luck to him in North Carolina!

I liked Mike Cuevas, but am also impressed with Jason Boyer. The other night, his maps showed temperatures in the 40s (even though they were really in the upper 50s) and he caught it and corrected the maps "on the fly". Not too many meteorologists know enough climate to do that.

Really sorry to hear Mike Cuevas has left. He was the most professional weather forecaster WLOS has ever had. Usually when he was off I watched channel 7 or channel 4 for the weather (Spartanburg/Greenville). I also enjoy their news anchors. There are only two news anchors at WLOS I enjoy and they are Frank Fraboni and Russ Bowen, I usually watch them when Mike Cuevas was reporting the weather. When watching the weather I want to hear about the weather and that’s all, don’t need a lot of grinning and fluff. Same with the news, just give me the news without personal remarks. Looks like I will be a permanent watcher of Channel 7 and Channel 4 from here on out. I think WLOS will realize Mike will be missed by many, should have paid him more.

Glad to see Jason’s return… I just hope he will show the map in motion, as this is what I got frustrated with Cuevas about. "Here, it’s raining on Long Shoals Road…" he would say…but then, either he wouldn’t show the map in motion to show WHERE the precip was going or he would show one quick blip…
Welcome Jason…

Jason "awful" and "totally igorant (sic) about weather and… western North Carolina"? What were you smoking back then, slevin? Obviously, something which impaired your view of reality.

This is good news. Jason Boyer was excellent when he worked here before. Smart and good looking forecasts are on the horizon. Good move for Ch 13!

RE: "Where is Cuevas going?"

Hopefully somewhere far, far, far away.

Jason Boyer was awful when he was here! He came across as being totally igorant about weather and even more so about western North Carolina. I am very disappointed that WLOS made such a horrible choice.

MmmmmHmmm September 25, 2009 - 10:44 pm

I’d like to see Scarlett Johansson as Chief Meteorologist, IMHO…but noooooo…..it has to be another dude…atleast Mike Cuevas had ‘swagger’ and a decent taste in clothes.

GRT, that’s what I want to know! I mean, not to be disrespectful to Jason who I don’t remember but I always found Cuevas knowledgable and professional but this market area probably wasn’t the best venue for him. I think he would do great in a larger more diverse market and best of luck to him!

Where is Cuevas going?
