Is the shakeout coming?

Share

I noticed that the North Star Diner out in Weaverville announced that it has closed. I thought the restaurant was great. Very sad that it couldn’t make it.

MyWeaverville has the news.

Word is they told the employees after lunch, then closed up.  Not sure what, if anything, will take over that space now.

With the economy still in the tank, are there other area businesses on the verge? What are you noticing?

Chef, that’s an awful scoop to hear. I feel terrible for the staff. That sucks.

It’s remarkable how many restaurateurs are cowards and idiots. And bullies. As a former GM at an otherwise fine local upscale restaurant with a tyrannical owner, I once considered doing an exposé on shady or mean restaurant bosses. I didn’t though, only because of their children. Still, it would be a good idea for a journalist to do an in-depth investigation culminating in a list of "Best & Worst Restaurant Asheville Employers to Work For" article, at least for the sake of prospective employees. Any takers?

Sad to hear. It was one of the better places to eat in Weavervegas.

Oh well. The shakeout is forthcoming, and there will be more. I just hope and pray it’s not Mammacita’s or I’ll starve 😉

North Star was well worth the Sunday drive for brunch. I LOVED it. Hate that it’s gone!

The owner ran northstar diner into the ground by A) putting it in a terrible location despite advice from nearly everyone to not put it there, and B) Making the diner responisble for all the prep work for his other restaurant, early girl eatery, thus doubling the operation cost for Northstar.

To make it worse, this coward walks in with no notice one afternoon, tells a manager the bad news, and then runs out the door so his manager is forced to tell the entire staff that the restaurant is closing THAT NIGHT. No notice, no heads up.

John (the owner) is a coward and an idiot, and I will think twice now about ever eating at early girl again after the way he treated his staff.
