Is One Love II restaurant on The Block closed?

Share

Loyal Ashvegas reader Sean is wondering. Here’s what he’s got:

Hey,

My wife and I tried to go a couple of weeks ago and they were closed (which is a drag since we bought two Restaurant.com coupons for them).  Called the phones for both the Asheville and Hendersonville locations and they had a “not in service” message.  We really liked that place.

Thanks,

Sean

The word on Twitter a couple of months ago was that the Asheville location has been closed since late last year due to an illness in the family. Also, I’ve gotta say that the couple of times I went there, I found the service to be very friendly, attentive and speedy, and while the food was a bit pricey, the servings were large and the flavor good.

I have not seen activity. I used to eat there a lot last summer and fall. I will do a drive/walk-by this morning. I too have the restaurant.com tickets there and other restaurants that have for sure closed. I have never had problems trading them for same dollar amount for another restaurant.

Yeah, they’re closed. At least the one off Eagle Street. Not really a big surprise to me. Poor service, and I always suspected that it remained open as long as it did because so many hipsters wanted to appear culturally diverse by going there. I couldn’t begin to tell you how many white suburban trust-fund college kids told me how "awesomely authentic" it was. Which, granted, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it just didn’t reflect on the quality of the product in this case, unfortunately.

In reality, the food was average at best and generally over-priced for what you got, which was, aside from a few "exotic" dishes, simply jazzed up soul food you could throw together at home from ingredients found in your pantry.

My wife just ate at the Hendersonville location last week, so I know that one is still open. Can’t speak for the other one.
