With Holly Headrick at the helm, WLOSers brought us the following news for a Sunday:

Montford shooting
A 12-year-old was shot in the head and two 16- or 17-year-old girls were hit after leaving a birthday party about 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning on Courtland Avenue in Montford, reporter Kassandra Pride told us. Kassandra even pointed directly to orange dots painted on the road where the shooting victims fell.

Kassandra said about 40 kids were in the streets when an argument broke out between party-goers and party crashers. Kassandra quoted Natasha Edgerton, who said the 12-year-old is a sixth-grader at Asheville Middle School. More at 11, Kassandra said.

Fire truck flips
A Haw Creek Fire Department truck lost its brakes coming down Town Mountain Road or something and flipped over. The two firemen in the truck were wearing seat belts and were unharmed.

Beautiful weather
Sunday was a pretty day, with a high around 74 and clear blue skies. More of the same coming for the next few days, Jay Siltzer said.

World War II veterans honored
Sheraldo brought us more of the same about the Word War II veterans from our area being flown up to Washington as part of the HonorAir program. Sheraldo showed us the big airport send-off, the police escort in Washington and gave us some quotes from members of “the greatest generation.” Nothing new.
