Just over the mountain in Knoxville, Tenn., federal investigators are prosecuting a case against alleged drug dealers closely connected with a Mexican drug cartel. These drug dealers chose Knoxville as a hub of operations, and some of this action surely made its way here to Asheville. Check out what the feds seized:
Authorities began seizing drugs and guns and hauling suspects into U.S. District Court in May. Nearly four tons of pot, more than 160 pounds of cocaine, and a number of guns stored at the “shooting gallery” stash house on Asheville Highway have been seized, along with stacks of cash. So far, more than two dozen people have been arrested.
Plowell has said wiretap evidence shows the Mexican drug cartel chose Knoxville as a hub because they believed police here were too unsophisticated to catch them.
This is some scary shiznit. Just goes to show you how we really do live in a global economy. Hopefully our local police are watching, too.

I bet Robert Mitchum could have made a great cult classic movie out of this.
Haha.. As Asheville grows, so does everything in else.
