Ignite, a new networking/ideas event, is coming to Asheville in February

A new networking and ideas event is scheduled to be held in Asheville in February. Ignite Asheville will join similar local nerdfests, including Hatch Asheville and TEDx Asheville.

The locally produced TED event, which was just held a couple of weeks ago, is an all-volunteer effort based on the popular California conference that highlights people passionate about a big idea. HATCH, which has been held in Asheville the last three springs, is more about connecting mentors with up-and-comers, and it includes a host of panel discussions, film screenings and networking events.

I don’t have details about Ignite, but it sounds similar to TED:

From February 7-11, over 100 cities will host community-powered Ignite events attended by upwards of 12,000 technologists, entrepreneurs, DIYers, and creative professionals on at least six continents. Participating cities include Seattle, Boston, Phoenix, Mumbai, Manila, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Bristol, Sydney, and Wellington. Global Ignite Week happens online as well as in person, making Ignite talks available to the whole world. Local Ignites will stream live video during their events, and then add those talks to the 1300+ five-minute videos archived on IgniteShow.com.

In talks that are exactly five minutes long, Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds.
