Hurrah for Early Girl Eatery

Share

One of our fave restaurants in town, the Early Girl Eatery, just got a nice nod from PETA’s cooking Web site. The site VegCooking.com says the restaurant has been voted “restaurant of the month.” This is a surprising nod in light of the fact that the Early Girl serves meat, such as their delish chicken strips and burgers. Maybe PETA isn’t as narrowminded as we thought they were.

Starting your day at Early Girl Eatery with a hearty breakfast of tofu scramble and homemade vegan sausage, stone-ground grits with tomato gravy, and a tall glass of orange juice or organic soy milk will have you whistling Dixie in no time. Lunch options include the toasted almond and ginger salad with fresh vegetables and diced oranges (Early Girl’s most popular vegan selection), the bean burger with eggplant spread, the avocado and fresh sprouts sandwich, and a vegetable plate with your choice of hoppin’ john, baked lima beans, or Carolina coleslaw. Added to the dinner menu are sesame tofu salad, sweet potato pone, and, during the colder months, stick-to-your-ribs veggie chili.

Husband and wife team John and Julie Stehling have kept the decor simple, cheerful, sunny, and open… and use locally grown produce.

Early Girl Eatery is located at 8 Wall St.; the phone number is 828-259-9292. The restaurant is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 9 p.m.; on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 10 p.m.; on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 10 p.m.; and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Congratulations! We’ll be by soon for another meal.

at least one of the things they mentioned is made with chicken stock, LOL.

Fuckin PETA. Everyone should watch the episode of Penn and Teller’s Bullshit about PETA.

You will never support them again once you realize they’re run by hypocrites, actually kill about 30% of the animals they rescue, and consider having a pet an abomination on the same level as slavery.
