HATCH Asheville, a creative multi-discipline arts event being held April 13-17th will be hosting Mike Marriner, Co-Founder of the popular PBS series “Roadtrip Nation.” Marriner will be conducting a keynote presentation on Saturday, April 16th – 12pm at 26 ½ Battery Park, located in downtown Asheville.
As part of this exciting development, local Asheville City School, Randolph Learning Center, has been chosen as the first partnership in North Carolina to pilot the experiential curriculum known as the Roadtrip Nation Experience. Principal of Randolph Learning Center, Dr. Gordon Grant, will also be available for the presentation as well as Q &A.
The Roadtrip Nation Experience is a modular set of 24 interactive lessons that guide students through a process of self-discovery, career exploration and community engagement – culminating with the opportunity to interview Leaders in their own communities.
Using digital, project-based learning tools, students upload their videos, photos, and blogs to a Roadtrip Profile page that is displayed alongside other students’ experiences creating a unique peer-to-peer engagement model. “We are excited to bring Roadtrip Nation to Asheville this year,” said Marriner, “and are honored to be working with Randolph Learning Center to help their students explore possible pathways and opportunities for their future.”
The keynote presentation is $5 for adults and free for students with school ID. Educators and parents are encouraged to attend. HATCH is a bi-annual event that takes place in two cities, Bozeman, MT and Asheville, NC. Bozeman will also have the opportunity to engage this curriculum into their educational system and youth programming.
