HATCH Asheville announces music panels,  concerts, workshops and a remix contest during April’s HATCH Experience held downtown.

HATCH Music will kick off a day early on Wednesday, April 13 as it presents the Music Video Asheville screening at the Fine Arts Theatre.  Local bands are encouraged to submit songs at Hatchexperience.com/music to have their songs remixed by famous DJs during Hatch.  The HATCH contest is connected to this year’s theme: Music Remixed.

HATCH will celebrate the local music scene and offer a fresh perspective of national music though six leaders in the industry:

Malcolm Campbell, the publisher of Spin Magazine; acclaimed pop cellist Ben Sollee; former vice president of artist development at Sugar Hill Records and general manager of Music Allies Molly Nagel; producer, remixer, label owner and NYC’s longest running dance music party promoter DJ Nickodemus; Producer, musician and remixer Moreno Visini, aka Zeb, The Spy from Cairo and Tor Hanson, the founder of Redeye Distribution which exclusiviely distributes such artists as Black Keys, Death Cab for Cutie and The Decemberists.

HATCH Music will present two panels for local musicians and fans.  On Thursday, April 14 at 5 p.m., musicians are encouraged to attend the HATCH Conversation “What’s Working for Who’s Working in Music.” The discussion will focus on real advice for musicians who are making a living performing music.

The panel on Friday, April 15 is meant to remix and rethink common perceptions of music. During the discussion, panelists will explore the changing landscape of music discovery, listening, creation and marketing.

Several performances will also be featured during HATCH. Don’t miss a rare intimate concert with Ben Sollee and a special local guest on Thursday, April 14 at the LAB. On Friday, local bands will take the stage at the HATCH networking event. And finally, local DJ Marley Carrol will perform at the HATCH closing party with internationally recognized DJ Nickodemus.
