ASHEVILLE DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION HOSTS ANNUAL STATE OF DOWNTOWN LUNCHEON

The Asheville Downtown Association (ADA) will host the State of Downtown Luncheon on Thursday, February 4 from noon to 1:30pm in the Civic Center’s banquet room. The event is co-sponsored by the City of Asheville.

2009/10 ADA Board Chair Byron Greiner will address the association’s program of work for the past year as well as the membership’s top priorities and challenges facing downtown merchants and residents.

“Our goal for the State of Downtown Luncheon is to bring together downtown stakeholders and talk about where we are, what’s important and what our priorities are going into 2010,” Greiner said.

The luncheon will also feature a presentation detailing the results of the City Comparison Project. In 2009, the Asheville Downtown Association undertook this year-long project to analyze downtown Asheville and compare it against other downtowns in the state of North Carolina and how they performed financially. The ADA will present the results of this project including best practices and lessons learned from across the state as well as a direction of where Asheville should go in the future.

Mayor Terry Bellamy will discuss the city’s accomplishments and actions as they pertain to downtown including city council’s strategic plan, the city’s future and how to get there, future capital needs and partnerships.

The Asheville Downtown Commission will review its progress as well as give an update on the Downtown Master Plan. Downtown Asheville Residential Neighbors (DARN) will also facilitate a question and answer session with presenters and attendees.

Tickets are $10 for members of the Asheville Downtown Association and $12 for potential members, and include lunch. Tickets and information are available online at ashevilledowntown.org or 828- 251-9973.
