From Asheville’s Greenlife Grocery/Whole Foods blog. This entry is all about cheese. A slice:
*NEW! Oak Moon Farm & Creamery local goat cheese! Try chevre tubs in Rosemary, Mountain Mediterranean, a garlic/herb blend, Honeyed, or Firecracker, with crushed red pepper and garlic. I am partial to their goat rounds–crumbly, spreadable chevre coated in herbs and spices. We carry the Black Oak, coated in black pepper, garlic, and dill; and Mama’s Garden, with parsley, rosemary, and basil. From the cheese makers: “Our goat herd consists of several dairy goat breeds, lovingly maintained on our ridge-top mountain farm in tranquil Bakersville, NC. We use humane, sustainable practices in the care of our animals and production of our cheeses, anchored in the knowledge that happy, healthy goats make good milk and it takes good milk to make good cheese.” Feel free to email Oak Moon at oakmoonfarm@verizon.net if you have questions. More amazing goat cheese from North Carolina!

Oh Noes Its another chain, just like the other ones down town people tend to ignore, Deal with it.
When Greenlife opened and Efare started to lose some customers, the Glife bashers were out in full force. Now Whole Foods sells buys Glife and we’re bashing them? Save yourselves from carpel tunnel and go to WF and Efare and Fresh Market for that matter and buy yourselves some good vittles. Grocery competition means better pricing for you. Be thankful that we’ve got quite a few places to get good food.
Am a former WFM corporate employee. WFM’s quality standards are exponentially higher than any other company in the industry (even the former Greenlife). After sitting through DAYS of training on the buying standards and seeing how other stores don’t have these same levels…the differences are astounding.

Why not go to the source, WholeFoods website, to learn more about what they do or don’t allow. Or better yet speak to one of the folks behind the counter.

Hey Ash, I heard that while Greenlife’s standards for sustainable seafood were very strict and awesome, Whole Foods is alot more lenient, and that the meat counter is switching to these new, looser standards, and not necessarily marking things that aren’t sustainable. You can check out Greenpeace’s website to see what they think of Whole Foods seafood standards. Have you heard anything about this?
