From the Asheville Citizen-Times:
Burger WorX, which will feature gourmet hamburgers, will open in Suite 132, formerly occupied by Cats & Dawgs, which closed last month. The eatery will be operated by Melissa Lausch and Carole Bowers of Carmel’s Restaurant & Bar.
Ray Pottery studio and Niche boutique are also opening soon in the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville.

HEre is an example of a business owner trying to cash in, this is all about $ no authenticity. the burger was very average, the fries were ridiculous. and yes, definitely a-she-ville oriented. the staff was rude, I am gay so no bias on my part, but please. I would rather spend $5 for a huge sub at Jimmy Johns.
wow, talk about terrible. I am usually not one to bash a restaurant but, well fact is a fact.
1. very overpriced, they may lower the price but then they'll have to lower the quality so you'll get a cheaper meal and mediocre product.
2. small portions, fries were way overdone.
3. No Veggie burger??????
4. kind of rude staff, I am all for equality but this place seemed to be aimed for a-she-ville patrons if you know what I mean.
5. These are the same owners of carmels, their staff is incredibly unhappy and the whole place is overpriced and undermanaged. two times we tried to eat there this summer and it was terrible. shame cause its a great location.
**you can just tell when they are in it just for the money
This is a hamburger joint with not much of a menu as far as choice to order from. There hamburgers are small in size depending on what you order and want to pay for. Fries are extra in cost and i saw nothing else like chips or onion rings to go along with the hamburger. The place looked nice and my hamburger was alright, nothing to brag about. I don't think that this place shall survive like the others. Price is way too high for what little you receive.
My friend told me about this new hamburger place, so i had to try it. I was also not happy about there menu and there prices. I ordered there $4.19 hamburger, a small fries and iced tea to drink. I wasn't happy at all about the size of the hamburger for the price i payed and there french fries were of a small amount and overdone. This place shall not survive in this location for the prices they charge and what little they offer with there meals. Burger king, McDonalds and Chilis all offer fries with there meal in a combo and the hamburgers are better tasting. They need to check out there other restaurants that serve this type of food and price accordingly. My total cost for this meal was $8.42. I shall know better next time and go somewhere else.
I ATE THERE TODAY. YOU GO INSIDE AND ORDER OFF OF A MENU ON A CLIPBOARD. I ORDERED THE BEEF HAMBURGER AND REGULAR BUN. SWEET ICED TEA TO DRINK. THE INSIDE OF THE PLACE HAS BEEN REMOLDED AND IT LOOKS NICE. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT AS IT WAS 11AM. THE HAMBURGER WAS JUICY AND FRESH. MY ONLY DRAW BACK ABOUT THIS PLACE WAS THAT THE FRIES ARE EXTRA IN COST – SMALL- 2.39 LARGE – 3.99. I DID NOT SEE ANY BAGS OF CHIPS WHILE I WAS THERE. IF THIS PLACE IS TO SURVIVE THE RESTAURANT MARKET TODAY, THEY NEED TO INCLUDE FRIES OR ONION RINGS WITH THE ORDER TO COMPETE WITH OTHER HAMBURGER PLACES. CHILI'S RESTAURANT OFFERS HAMBURGERS STARTING AT 5.99 WITH SEASONED FRIES. THERE HAMBURGER IS ALSO LARGER IN SIZE FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY. I WISH THEM LUCK IN THIS VENTURE OF THERE'S, BUT IF TALGARY'S GOS BACK TO THERE HAMBURGERS AND ONION RINGS, THIS PLACE SHALL NOT SURVIVE UNLESS THEY CAN COMPETE IN PRICE.
I tend to think the Grove Arcade may indeed be cursed as a retail location. It is just not all it has been hyped to be as a downtown destination. There have been so many different places in there over the last 8 years or so, especially restaurants. I'm sure a lot of people have lost a lot of money there.
Also I'm not sure whatever happened to the apartments that were going to goon the market as condos, perhaps they will just remain rentals. Beautiful old building though. Too bad it has never really taken off.
Bummer about CATS AND DOGS. Stoked for Gourmet Burgers! Hope they are affordable.
Hope this restaurant survives.
Grove Arcade seems to be the kiss of death for most restaurant (and other retail) ventures at the Grove Arcade. I can't begin to even count the turnover in food establishments since the Arcade reopened many years back now.
What exactly is it about the Grove Arcade that causes this? Location, parking, poor concept or just cursed?
