The Mountain Xpress had this little blurb as an update last week that we didn’t see anywhere else:
Complements to the Chef, which has been outfitting Asheville’s cooks since 1979, recently announced its upcoming closure. According to a store employee, owner Tex Harrison is retiring. After spending more than a year trying to find someone to buy the shop, she decided she was “ready to go.” The store, at 374 Merrimon Ave., will stay open until its inventory is sold.
Really sad news. This place was the one place we could go to find a guaranteed winner for a Mother’s Day present or birthday gift. It was a little expensive, but you always found quality stuff, and it was a locally owned store. Damn.
There was also a tidbit from MountainX a couple weeks back about the Grove Park Inn creating its own private wine label. The first two wines are a 2005 Chard and a 2004 Cab.

I went by today and almost everything is GONE! Tex said all the cookware was gone by the first day of the sale and all the knifes by the second. Even the display racks are selling. There are still lots of cookie cutters left, though!
They were a little expensive, but they had a lot of items that were hard to find in the bigger places, like Wok rings, and high end cast iron!
