Going for a world record with dancing white squirrels in Brevard

Organizers of the White Squirrel Festival in Brevard this weekend hope to break a world record. Here’s the story, from the Hendersonville Times-News:

Part of the festivities on Saturday is an effort to break a record in the Guinness Book of World Records. At 3 p.m., the organizers are working to gather 250 people dressed as white squirrels to dance at the entertainment stage for five minutes. The record they are trying to break is for the largest number of dancers at a public setting dressed up in costume. The record is currently held by 200 people who dressed up as a robot who danced for three minutes, according to Zimmerman.

The record-breaking event will also be a fundraiser. Participants are asked to bring a canned good to donate to Bread of Life, an agency which provides hot meals to any county resident who asks for assistance.
