From the Raleigh News & Observer:
The incoming Republican majority in the state House has a to-do list for the first 100 days of the 2011 legislative session, including a proposed constitutional amendment limiting eminent domain and legislation to exempt North Carolinians from parts of the federal health care overhaul.
First, they have to decide who among them will wield the speaker’s gavel.
Rep. Paul “Skip” Stam of Apex, the current Republican leader in the House, is expected to compete for the top job with the minority whip, Rep. Thom Tillis of Cornelius.
A half-dozen other Republicans may also seek to become speaker. Rep. Mitch Gillespie from Marion in Western North Carolina said he was considering a run.
