On Thursday, members of the public will have their first chance to see Anywhere USA, the independent movie made in Asheville by director Anthony “Chusy” Haney-Jardine. The quirky story won a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and features a lot of regular Asheville folks.
Tickets for the show at the Fine Arts Theatre downtown cost a whopping $50 per, but you get a champagne reception, and you get the knowledge that you’re helping the director take his movie to the London Film Festival, where he hopes to nail down a distribution deal. Haney-Jardine has also said that he’ll donate part of the proceeds of the night to the campaign of Barack Obama, so there’s another incentive if you need it.
