Local organizers of TEDx Asheville set for Sunday held a technical run-through of the show on Wednesday, an event that I’ve been advancing for the Mountain Xpress and will be covering live for the newspaper with a live video webcast.
I was impressed by the sheer number of volunteers and the level of energy everyone brought to the practice session. Robert Zimmerman, one of the speakers, expresses that enthusiasm in his report here.
The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Orange Peel and starts at 7 p.m., with doors open at 6:30 p.m. Come early to be sure you get a seat. Or stay home and watch in your underwear at www.mountainx.com.
One of the speakers at the event will be Asheville resident Drew Jones, a specialist in systems dynamics and climate-change modeling who is program director for the Vermont-based Sustainability Institute. He travels the world showing his group’s computer model to influential politicians and policy makers with the goal of convincing them to cut carbon emissions. It turns out that Jones will also be giving his presentation to the TEDx Beijing event in China next week. Just another example of how expertise we have right here in Asheville has influence around the world, which is exactly what TEDx Asheville is all about. To get a taste of what to expect on Sunday, watch Jones’ video below.
