Gannett Blog picks up on C-T editor lawsuit, and comments roll in

Share

Jim Hopkins over at Gannett Blog has posted the story about former Asheville Citizen-Times Editor Susan Ihne’s $15 million lawsuit against Gannett, a story Mountain Xpress had here last night.

Here’s a recent comment by an Ashvegas reader, who took the initiative and called the Citizen-Times newspaper to request coverage of a story. After all, the customer’s always right, right?

So i just called the CIT-TIMES newsroom and asked why they weren’t even covering this since it is a big deal, and immediately she said “You’ll need to talk to Randy about that.” Apparently its not a newsroom decision anymore to decide what is news and what isn’t when it involved Randy.

Then I was transferred to his secretary. I told her that it needs to be covered that it can just be ignored, it is newsworthy and people deserve to know about it.

And here are some of the comments at Hopkins’ blog. The comments are anonymous:

•Thanks for the post, Jim. I was always curious about what happened, especially since she seemed to be golden in Gannett’s eyes…

•What a gutsy thing she’s doing. This will do nothing but make things better for thousands of workers—win or lose.

•Would a publisher act in such a manner unilaterally, without some kind of wink from corporate?

•I certainly hope she’s doing okay. Susan, if you’re reading this, hang in there.

•Someone asked about the law firm’s reputation. Kennedy & Kennedy is steeped in civil rights practice in North Carolina. And probably of more concern to Gannett is they’ve beaten Wal-Mart at this type of litigation.
