An impressive array of local artists join together to support the new Creative Technology & Arts Center hosted by Odyssey Community School on Saturday, June 5th at 6:30 .
Odyssey Community School, an integrative educational model for students of all ages, is creating a 4,500 square foot space dedicated to music, art, performing arts and multimedia to help better inspire and nurture creativity and innovation in students and the community.
“The center’s mission is to create a cutting-edge multi-disciplinary arts center that reaches beyond the borders of the school as a positive influence on the Asheville community,” says River Guerguerian, head of the new music department. “There will be collaborations with all kinds of artists: film makers, musicians, dancers, painters, potters, creative technologists, etc. “
A fundraising concert will feature local musicians Free Planet Radio (world jazz), Billy Jonas (songwriter), Kat Williams (vocalist), River Guerguerian (Multi-Percussionist) Mariam Matossian (Armenian Singer), Keowee Chamber Artists, Akira Satake (Japanese Banjo artist), Gerald Trimble (Viola Da Gamba), Laura Hope-Gill (poet laureate of the Blue Ridge Parkway), John Vorus Sage Sansone (vocalist) and Maria Voisin (dancer) will kick off the new space. The evening will also include an art auction with work donated by such well received artists as Jonas Gerard.
Guerguerian, a local multi-percussionist, composer and educator who has been a world renowned performer for over 25 years, will be the Head of the Music Department in the new Center. In addition to teaching and performing at Odyssey Community School, he is setting up his music studio and offering classes this June through Odyssey’s summer camp program. More classes, workshops, and performances hosted by the school starting the 2010-2011 academic year.
