Free legal help April 4

Here’s the story:

Lawyers across the state have signed up to answer legal questions in a one-day event called 4ALL.

On April 4, citizens across North Carolina can call a toll-free number and speak with an attorney about legal matters.

This is an initiative from new N.C. Bar Association president Janet Ward Black.

“We want the people of North Carolina to know this is out there, and we stand ready to provide a public service to them,” she said in a statement to N.C. Lawyers Weekly.

Local attorney Ed Pressley said both the caller and the attorney on the other end will remain anonymous.

These calls are not to retain an attorney and are not for future legal services; the 4ALL event is free.

Black said this event is part of the N.C. Bar Association’s public service day.

Billboards promoting the event are on display in several cities across the state, including one in Charlotte.

Attorneys across the state were asked to volunteer services for the day, and more than the needed amount stepped up, Pressley said.

Television stations in Asheville, Charlotte, Greens-boro and New Bern will serve as call centers, as will BB&T in Winston-Salem and AIT, Inc. in Fayetteville.

Other call centers are expected to be located in Raleigh and Wilmington.

Anyone interested in participating, however, just needs to call the toll-free number, and they will be connected with an attorney.
