Loving Food Resources
Founded in 1991, Loving Food Resources is now celebrating its 20th anniversary year.
LFR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to provide food, health and personal care items to people living with HIV/AIDS or to any person receiving home hospice care in the seventeen counties of Western North Carolina.
Located on the campus of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, the food pantry is open for private client shopping on Saturdays between 11:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. LFR is an all-volunteer agency, and there is no paid staff. All services and home deliveries are performed by volunteers.
First organized in November 1991 when three individuals realized that people with HIV/AIDS and other terminal illnesses were often forced to choose between buying food or buying essential medicines, LFR has grown to serve an average of eighty clients per week. In its earliest days, volunteers packed boxes of food for clients to pick up. But, now, clients shop from foodservice shelves and large free-standing coolers, and they select food themselves. Food boxes average approximately fifty lbs. per week.
