As predicted awhile ago, Dwight Butner and Robin Cape have filed to run for Ashvegas City Council. Also, Councilman Carl Mumpower filed for re-election to council, although, as we understand it, nothing bars him for filing to run for mayor, if he chooses. It’s a rule council should adopt, by the way – require sitting council members to resign their seats if they choose to run for mayor.
Butner is owner of a downtown restaurant and leads an active group of independent restaurant owners. Cape is a big environmentalist who won a write-in campaign to get a seat on the Woodfin water board at a time when the board was considering logging Woodfin’s watershed.
We’ll keep watching to see who else comes out, includng Bryan Freeborn and all the mayoral candidates. Will Leni Sitnick run for mayor again?
