Weaverville Town Council recently voted to cancel this year’s Fourth of July celebration, an annual event that draws thousands of people to celebrate Indepence Day. The national economy’s in tank, though, and local governments are scrambling to deal with big drops in sales tax and other revenues.
I wonder if other local governments will go this route and not spend on fireworks this year.

Since the Tribune changes its front page weekly, here’s a more permanent, albeit ugly, link about the decision from the town’s website: http://weavervillenc.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=354&Itemid=8
