Partial statement here, which Chris Pelly plans to read tonight at St. John’s Church before a meeting of the Haw Creek Community Association. Pelly is president of the group.

Pelly ran unsuccessfully for Asheville City Council back in 2005:

Dear friends and neighbors,

In the time I have served as your community association president, working together, we have accomplished many things for which we can be proud. Our work has made qualitative improvements in the quality of life for Haw Creek and east Asheville residents.

Whether it is Haw Creek Park, Masters Park or now sidewalks on several streets and roads, I have tried to provide dynamic leadership towards the growth challenges facing our community. I believe this results-oriented approach demonstrates what is possible with vision and determination.
And, our successes can be measured in more than tangible improvements like sidewalks on Tunnel Road. They can also be measured in strengthened community identity and cohesion. Nowadays Haw Creek and all East Asheville neighborhoods stand a little taller because we have learned sticking
together gets results.

It is my hope to build this same sense of cohesion at the city-wide level working with neighborhoods from across Asheville. This is the basis for my decision to seek a seat on Asheville City Council.

Tonight I ask your support and guidance as I announce myself as a candidate for City Council in the upcoming fall elections.

Also at tonight’s meeting Chris Pelly will receive the endorsement of Ralph Morris, who served on Asheville City Council from 1971 to 1981. Mr. Morris’ tenure, which ended thirty years ago, was the last time eastAsheville had a representative on Asheville City Council.
