Did you see all those people with clipboards downtown today?

I did, and Gordon tells me that those folks were Barack Obama supporters who have been working their asses off getting people registered to vote. Gordon says they’re registering hundreds of new voters.

More and more attention will be paid to North Carolina by Dem presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Obama as we near our May 6 primary, a primary that USA Today said this week could be the end of the road for one of the two.

So, just who is registering to vote? How many new voters are on the rolls in Buncombe County and surrounding counties? How big will turnout be on Election Day? These are all critical questions, and I wish someone would report the numbers – how many new Democratic, Republican and unaffiliated new voter registrations this year? And are established Republican voters changing their registration to unaffiliated so they can vote in the Democratic primary?

WLOSer Pat Simon took a crack at this story a few days ago and did a pitiful job. Somebody, put a real reporter on it and give me some useful information. Please.

Its pretty incredible! Everywhere is being covered, and covered well. Schools, neighborhoods, churches, housing projects, grocery stores, events.

Are the reporters told to do a crappy job? seriously? Are they asked to dumb down the news?

Voter registration for this election ends April 11. We’ll get some solid numbers after that.
