The story that broke Thursday about the guy who apparently faked his death 20 years ago and whose true identity was discovered when a Weaverville cop pulled him over for a traffic stop keeps getting weirder.
Thursday night, WLOS’ Courtney Brennan was posted outside the home of Bennie Hardin Wint, waiting for an interview. At the 11 o’clock news, Brennan reported that an ambulance had arrived at the home and that they had been unable to interview Wint, who was known locally as James Sweet.
In a story on the Asheville Citizen-Times web site today, reporter John Boyle gets the interview with Wint and says:
Initially, Wint was agitated when a reporter appeared on the narrow road in front of his home, telling the reporter he was trespassing and that the law would be called. He said a television news crew almost ran him off the road last night.
Wint calmed down and gave a brief interview to the Citizen-Times, stressing that he had committed no crimes and saying twice he had not faked his death.
In the rush to get the story, did WLOS nearly run over a guy who had just come back from the dead?

It gets better. The television station is pursuing charges against him.

You know, I was wondering why all of a sudden the same guy who was in the news for this identity scandal was also the victim of a car accident. It makes sense that one caused the other to happen. Thanks for giving us "the rest of the story" Paul HarveyVegas!
No, it was Fox Carolina
