There has been talk in Asheville about revitalizing The Block in downtown Asheville for decades. Little has happened. Will this new effort succeed? We’ll see. The Block, as you know, is the historic African-American business district in Asheville.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the YMI Cultural Center, there will be a reception and local organizations “will be sharing information about their upcoming community development plans that will provide new residences, businesses and cultural venues on the Block,” says an ad in last week’s Mountain Xpress.
The following organizations will be there:
Eagle-Market Streets Development Corporation; Mt. Zion Community Development Inc.; Mountain Housing Opportunities; The Performance Center in Asheville; The Asheville Design Center; The Asheville Art Museum; the YMI Cultural Center.
That’s group of heavy hitters on the local scene. It’s worth checking out to get an update on the plans.
