Here’s another victim of the tough economy. Dawgstar Coffee Bar is located in the Lexington Station mixed-use development on South Lexington Avenue. The sign says: “Due to the economy Dawgstar is closed.” I ate their sammiches once when they first opened, but that was about it.

Wrong, wrong, wrong as always Mr Reality Check your the one that hasn’t considered anything except for the same ol tired rhetoric you spew here. If you had read my post you would try to refute what I said, which is truth, and since you didnt you can’t and won’t so just attack me the cowards way.
And sad for you I live in the City limits and I must remind you the city goes past the Tunnel and the bridge, lived in the city all my life. And Im not bitter anymore because the 18 year woodstock is coming to a close and not a moment too soon so I am quite happy.
And no the Drum Circle is a waste of time and effort.
You make a few things abundantly clear, AD.
You do not consider the content of anybody’s ashvegas posts.
You are certainly not an average person, especially if you live within city limits, which I have some doubts about.
Finally, you hate how Asheville is evolving and are bitter as hell.

PS: The drum circle is a blast!
Well i bet they do serve micro brew in downtown, well I be . . . You absolutely stated nothing in your post, and its been more then 10 years since downtown was abandoned so try again.
Yeah I have been downtown and there is NOTHING for the average person to do, Oh boy streets and streets of bars and Micro brews thats diverse, oh boy a crappy drumcircle, or oh boy more cookie cutter street muscians . . . . And not to forget rubber stamp Stores, Bars, and coffee shops, how original.
Yeah lots to do downtown, thats a big ol joke and a half.
and for the record 1) I Loathe the Mall, 2) Red Lobster sucks, and PBR still sucks.
Downtown Asheville borderline useless, AD? Do you forget what it looked like about ten-years ago? There were so many boarded-up storefronts, it was difficult to believe it would ever come back. Have you tried to make your way through the masses of money-spending people there on a warm, Summer night lately? Do you realize most downtown restaurants are smoke-free – that they feature the many craft-brewed beers this region has to offer – not PBR? I would say Asheville is healthy and viable, just not your cup of tea, oh sour puss. Maybe you should try mall-walking to while away the hours. Then you could stop by Red Lobster for a gourmet dinner. I bet they serve PBR.

The problem with most businesses that are crafty etc. is that they are not well thought out. The owners are so excited about opening the doors that they don’t do a good job of painting and cleaning. And they sure don’t think about how much they have to sell to make rent, payroll, utilities, and the like. How many cups of coffee or ear rings do you have to sell to make rent.
Think about it.
People talk about me being negative, wow. Yes Im aware of 2 guys hoagies, I know one of the original owners thank you. Another one in the downtown area wouldnt hurt but if its not a smoke filled dump that sells PBR then it fails huh?
Everything else you failed to dismiss with your snarky attitude, a general store would do well in downtown Asheville. Sure it would, almost all the Hipsters is bitch, bitch, bitch, daily about malls and outlet stores, why not a local general store that carried alot of everyday items? Makes too much sense doesn’t its hard to think ahead and outside the box when most of Asheville is concerned with the next coffee shop or bar to open and ultimately go out of business. This is why downtown Asheville is borderline useless to the average person needing everyday items.
Fairs just don’t get it, alot and I mean ALOT of tourists come to town looking for Mountain made items in town and all they find is the same Sub-par art that this town passes off as local heritage they could find in their own crappy town. Folk art center is a good start but its not what you would call reasonable is it?
Again never said penny candy stop assuming, your loosing credit or what little you had to begin with. An old fashioned candy store down town would do well, serving flavored soda’s and snacks. But is Asheville too diverse for something like that isn’t it? I mean Asheville is supposed to be this Tourist Mecca then it should hold its own.
Ahhhh thought your "goddess bless" would upset again failure on your part, I could care less about what people worship. I just don’t get it to Religion bash no matter what they may worship.
RC, haven’t you noticed yet that EVERYTHING is bitch, bitch, bitch with this Negative Nelly? That seems to be some people’s raison d’etre.
Right on, AshevilleDweller. Asheville is becoming Poserville.
It’s sad when what once made this town so unique has become cliched and replicated ad nauseum.
"How about a decent general store? Or how about A store that specializes in Mountain Crafts or Mountain Art NOT rust art, or Shoddy B/W Photos."
How about you go right ahead and set one up?
"How about a decent general store?" – Good question, AD. That type of business was killed when motor cars and then malls came into fashion. That is why downtowns across this country died and are still just coming back. I also think you watch too many Gunsmoke re-runs. Didn’t Hoss, Little Joe and Hop Sing do their shopping at the general store?
"Or how about A store that specializes in Mountain Crafts or Mountain Art NOT rust art, or Shoddy B/W Photos." – Try the Folk Art Center or the many art galleries, shows and craft fairs throughout the year.
"How about a localy owned Sandwhich shop or snacks, or an old school candy store?" – Two Guys Hoagies has been around forever. Besides, sandwiches and snacks are available at every restaurant in town. If you want candy, head for the basement of Mast General Store. I suppose you want penny candy. Just in case you han’t noticed, those days are long gone too.
Also, feel free to open a bookstore of any religious persuasion downtown. See how long you stay in business. The economy and religion are both still free market. Good luck and goddess bless.

Ahhh putting words in my mouth and making dumb assumptions, the progressive mindset in this town is astonishing. How about stores in general that aren’t bars, coffee shops, books stores, or trinket/Junk shops. How about a decent general store? Or how about A store that specializes in Mountain Crafts or Mountain Art NOT rust art, or Shoddy B/W Photos. How about a localy owned Sandwhich shop or snacks, or an old school candy store?
Little too much to comprehend that there is whole world out there that doesnt involve asheville Rubber stamp businesses. Make too much sense for Asheville to live up to the Diverse moniker it proudly displays when this town isn’t at diverse.
And if someone wanted to open a religious bookstore dealing with christianity what of it, The economy is still free market, you don’t like don’t go in. But Its ok to be accepting of religions just not any christian ones, hypocrisy at its best.
I agree regarding the coffee comment, AD, but really. It is always bitch, bitch, bitch when it comes to the bars in town. What do you want in those vacant locations? Churches? Christian book stores? You must be quite the teetotaller!

I ate there once. Not very good but they had good wifi.
Takes a lot of coffee sales to pay rent.
Another grand location for another bar. Sucks they went out of business but how many coffee shops does a town need anyway?
Soon it will be how many bars does a town need anyway?
