Correcting the record on the Ashvegas/Citizen-Times collaboration

Share

I’m not going to waste my time defending to detractors my decision to team up with the Asheville Citizen-Times, but I will correct the record. Case in point is a post over at Downtown Asheville that contains factually incorrect information.

Here’s the incorrect assertion by Byron Belzak at Downtown Asheville:

Case in point: Gannett has already begun reconstructing the site. When you go to Ashvegas now, and click on the SearchAshevilleBlogs subcategory at top of the homepage, all the blogs have been removed. The lame reason: “Working on a search engine that will search only Asheville and WNC blogs.” What does that mean? For me it means one of the great reasons to go to Ashvegas has already been removed.

Here’s the deal: Gannett is in no way “reconstructing” my blog. The SearchAshevilleBlogs category was a half-done experiment by me more than two years ago. I never finished it, and it’s just been sitting there. Nothing about that changed when I started with the Citizen-Times.

The media landscape is changing faster than most people can keep up, and everyone from big corporate institutions to small, locally owned businesses are trying to figure out what’s next. My experiment with the Citizen-Times is no different than the Xpress’ experimentation with Twitter and social media-powered newspapering. They’re both new approaches, and both will yield valuable lessons.

There’s more to take issue with, but it’s not worth my time. All I ask is that folks be factually correct and keep an open mind.

Ignore! Ignore! Ignore!

That’s what you’ve been telling me for years.

I read in the C-T comments that only hippie degenerate losers read this blog anyway, so no worries. I was quietly concerned that you might not be as able to make fun of WLOS, but I prefer to wait and see what happens rather than to institute anticipatory whining.

Hey, don’t let that detractor get you down! There are tons of people who read your blog and support whatever you’re doing. I think it’s great you’re now with the paper again and I have one more place to read your postings/articles. Good luck with it all, we support you!
