Commentary: Widening Leicester Highway is a bad idea

Share

This is a interesting Facebook post by former Asheville City Councilman Bryan Freeborn. I’m posting it here just to make folks aware.

Here’s Freeborn:

it appears that the old plans to widen very rural part of Leicester Highway to four lanes are once again moving forward. Neither the size of Leicester rural community or the amount of traffic on the road justifies such a large investment or the environmental damage that would come with it considering the state of federal, state, and local budgets

Check out Bryan’s Facebook page to read the rest. Does anyone have any more details on these plans? Here’s the most recent mention of outer belt construction for Asheville.

How ’bout they try to solve the traffic problems at Leicester Highway and Patton Avenue before they invite more traffic further north?
