Here’s the story:

The U.S. Census Bureau begins opening Early Local Census Offices (ELCOs) this fall in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The ELCO is another part of the ever expanding scope of the Census Bureau’s preparation for the next decennial in 2010. Recruiting for management positions will begin immediately. Regional Director William W. Hatcher said, “Our goal is to count every person in our region. A key element in cementing this effort is making sure we hire the right people now as we continue building our foundation for an accurate count in 2010.”
The ELCO will be initially staffed with the following full-time supervisory positions:
Local Census Office Manager
Assistant Manager for Field Operations
Assistant Manager for Recruiting
Assistant Manager for Administration
Assistant Manager for Quality Assurance
Assistant Manager for Technology
All candidates must be U.S. citizens, reside in the metro area where the position is posted, clear a FBI background check, pass a written management test, complete an application, and address evaluation criteria listed in the job announcement.
The offices will be located in the following cities: Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky; Asheville, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Greenville, North Carolina; Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina; Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville, Tennessee; Alexandria, Richmond, and Roanoke, Virginia. The Regional Census Center is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
