Buncombe County GOP christens new HQ: Rev. Wendell Runion decries ‘liberal, socialistic agenda’

Share

The Buncombe County GOP christened its new headquarters building Saturday afternoon with an old fashioned rally. The headquarters is in the old Carpet Connection building about two miles down Leicester Highway.

The meeting featured local GOP chairman Chad Nesbitt introducing key party leaders, as well as a host of politicians seeking office this election year. The Rev. Wendell Runion also spoke, and decried what he called the “socialistic, liberal agenda” that’s taken over America today. Watch the video. You can also hear him on the evils of teaching evolution in school and more.

If I am not mistaken, that is Buncombe County GOP Chairman Chad Nesbitt in baggy shorts and a too tight golf shirt, standing right up there on stage, introducing those "key party leaders" who spew their venomous lies and hatred. They are all overdosing on FOX News, Glenn Beck annd Rush Limbaugh – seeing what they want to see – hearing what they want to hear. And let me not forget that snazzy get-up for the big headquarters christening. Not important, just humorous. Stay classy, Chad.

Classy as always Chad. How do you expect people to take you seriously, at an event like this one, dressed like that. If you think you’re part of the big leagues you’d better start paying better attention to your dress and the grease in your hair. Oh, yeah your writing could use some help as well.

Luckily, as we have seen from recent elections, the people have moved away from electing individuals who use language like "fixing" when trying to grandstand. Just as when people shifted to the idea that the earth was round, so should your dwindling constituency eventually open their eyes and look out upon the modern world. When your common bond is ignorance and fear, you can’t be terribly surprised when the group gets smaller. Good luck, Chuck.

Tom,

I was born in 1970. Get ready! You are fixing to hear the silent generation, their children, and grandchildren very clearly.

Looking at this video clip from a generational history perspective:

Rev. Runion’s concerns are very typical of someone from the "Silent" generation (someone born between 1925-42).

NOTE: I’m guessing Rev. Runion is from the Silent generation based on my guesstimaton of his age.

Generations that are currently in society: [oldest to youngest] — G.I. generation (very few left), Silent, Boom, Gen-X, Gen-Y (aka Millennials), and the newest generation (those born after 2004 – no name yet).

There are only 4 generational "archetypes" and the one Rev. Runion is speaking from have historically been THE most fearful of change and most resistant to change. This generational archetype (Silent gen in this situation) have a deep yearning for the way things used to be.

The Silent generation were children during WWII and they were told over and over again by their parents about all the sacrifices of the young men and women of the G.I. generation. The Silent generation got their name from towing the line, and doing everything "right", not causing any problems, being "normal".

When Rev. Runion’s generation looks around now they are confused. Nothing looks like it "should". To Rev. Runion’s generation the world looks like it’s been turned upside down and you can hear this in the video clip.

The Silent generation (like all generations from this archetype) have to eventually come to terms that the "old way" is not coming back and it’s Gen-Y (children of the Boomers) that will make sure of that. Gen-Y is the largest generation in history and they are changing everything (societal "norms", technology, politics, etc.).

It’s fun to look at current events through a generational history lens.
