BREAKING: More on Asheville City Hall search warrants and alleged embezzlement case

Here’s the latest on the story of alleged financial misdeeds at Asheville City Hall, from the Mountain Xpress mxnews Twitter feed:

-Search warrant on City Hall targeted Human Resources, not elected official

-According to warrant, Asst HR Director Robin Nix admitted to submitting fraudulent claims, said mgmt was aware of problems

-Police served warrants Dec, Jan and last Fri targeting suspected fraud in city’s flexible spending program

-No arrests yet of any of the city employees named in the warrants

I agree with ExitOne.

It seems to me that if several employees allegedly knew these fraudulent activities were happening and no one reported it that conspiracy charges should be included as well.

Why have we not heard from Mayor Bellamy on this issue?

She should call for the SBI for an "independent" investigation.

Of course since this involves possible Federal tax fraud as well maybe the FEDS will take a look.

The City should Not be investigating itself. The same APD detectives investigating the offenses and executing the search warrants, also have the same flexible spending accounts, and this is a conflict of interest to say the least.
