Bob Cobweb celebrates his 40th

Some of you, my faithful readers, have been giving us a hard time about not blogging about WLOSer Bob Caldwell’s 40th anniversary as a television personality. And you’re absolutely right. We’ve been putting off, meaning to do a little something about it, and just haven’t gotten around to it. But now that the weekend is here again, we’ve got a little time between shots of Beam and handfulls of pork rinds…

Last week, WLOSers showed us old clips of Bob dating all the way back to when he played Bumbo the Clown on the Mr. Bill Show. That’s right – Bumbo. Bob’s rival, Jay Seltzerwater, did the little tribute story, and announced that Bob was going to be inducted into some weather-guessers’ hall of fame or something in September. Guess we’ll hear more about that later.

Bob also made it a point to quell any rumors that he was retiring. His contract is up for renewal this year, but station management has made it clear that Bob’s got a job if he wants it.

We like Bob. We like the way Bob puts Jay down (keep taking those meteorology classes, Jay, cause you ain’t movin’ in on Bob’s turf any time soon.) We like the way Bob goes out in the woods to sniff squirrel shit on trees and show us pretty waterfalls. We don’t like the way Bob chuckles his way through the noon weather soothsaying. And we sure as hell don’t believe his winter weather snow guesses.

But all in all, Bob’s not bad. And like he always says, for an old boy from Madison County, he’s done all right for himself.
