Insiders are telling Ashvegas that Larry Blunt has been named the new anchor at WLOS, replacing Frank Kracher, who departed in March. Back in the day, Larry worked for WYFF Channel 4.
Here’s Blunt’s bio from his Denver station:
He’s an authentic “Okie from Muskogee.” For those of you who remember the song, that’s in Oklahoma. Now he calls Thornton home since he joined CBS4 in 1998.
Larry Blunt has spent his career witnessing and reporting first hand some of the most memorable moments in the past two decades. He has covered events such as the Columbine shootings, Oklahoma City Federal Building Bombing, and the Susan Smith Trial. On the lighter side, he’s also covered Psycho the cat who wouldn’t come down from a tree for 5 days, and the man who made a living pretending to be a Cherokee Chief for 50 years.
His diverse career and experiences have given him a perspective and sensitivity that he brings daily to his reports for viewers of CBS4. He’s a four-time Emmy winner, as well as the recipient of dozens of state and regional journalism awards.
Larry is a graduate of Purdue University and a federally recognized member of the Cherokee Nation.
In his personal life it’s his faith and family that take priority. His wife Jan and four children keep him grounded. He takes pride in his years in the U.S. Navy, most onboard the USS Trenton. He’s a member of the West Point Parents Club of Colorado. Larry’s oldest son Nick is a Cadet. (Go Army!)
Besides his wife, Larry says his best friends can be found among co-workers at CBS4 who he considers to be the best in the business.
