Here’s the story, by roller derby correspondent Bill Rhodes:

Blue Ridge Rollergirls successful 2010 season continues at the Asheville Civic Center with a special double-header on April 24. The first bout starting at 5p.m. (doors open at 4) will feature the debut of the squad’s “B” team, the French Broads against the Southern Illinois Rollergirls from Carbondale, IL. Starting at 7p.m. the main event pits BRRG against Johnson City, TN’s Little City Rollergirls.

Little City wears red. BRRG is black and blue. Now, there has been a lot of trash talk from those kids up I-26 over the past few weeks. They claim they will flood down that highway, through Erwin, over Sam’s Gap, and fan out through our valley from the north–a horde in red. They say they will have more red in our civic center than we can have in black and blue. Pfffile, I say.

So, let’s show them black and blue, Asheville! To that end, there will be a contest for your black and blue-themed outfits. With prizes, of course. Fabulous prizes!

Your ticket stub (or someone else’s, I suppose) from the March bout has value beyond your collection of Grateful Dead, Phish, and yes even Avett Brothers ticket stubs stuck in the corner of your dressing mirror. It is even more valuable than your ticket stubs from your trip to Disney World or the Statue of Liberty. Yes, indeed. These ticket stubs can save you $2 off admission at the door. You heard right. The $10 pre-sale admission price is yours on bout day with your ticket stub from March 13th. But that’s not all. Don’t forget the civic center promised free popcorn with the March 13th ticket stub as well. I would say, short of Woodstock ticket stubs, or Yankee tickets for July 4, 1941 (Lou Gherig’s retirement), these are the hottest ticket stubs around.

The civic center will have additional gate persons, a second concessions area, and an improved sound system this time. This should ease the problems experienced in March with lines to get vitals, like beer. On the main sound system this time, there should not be issues with not hearing the announcer, a special guest, Big Daddy from Johnson City. Of course, and as always, for those who can’t hear at all, BRRG will have an ASL interpreter there for the bout.

Wear black and blue, the wilder the better. Bring your March ticket stub. Come early, get good seats. Sit back and enjoy. See you there.
