July 7, 2009: The Blue Ridge Rollergirls (BRRG) will continue their 2009 season by hosting a competition July 11, 2009 in Asheville, North Carolina at the Asheville Civic Center. They will take on the Low Country Highrollers from Charleston, SC. Doors open at 6:00 PM with the bout beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $12 (children 12 and under free) the day of the event. Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com and at the Asheville Civic Center box office.

The women’s flat track roller derby league was formed in Asheville in 2006 and has been actively competing against other leagues in the area since the summer of 2007. This is the league’s third season.

This event marks the Blue Ridge Rollergirls’ third home bout of the 2009 season and will be themed “Red, White, and Bruised”. French Broad Brewery of Asheville has chosen to sponsor the league and have been serving their beer at each home bout during the 2009 season. “We started out with a bang for the first bout,” says Head Brewer Drew Barton. The beers featured so far have been the Ryehopper and the 13 Rebels ESB, the most popular among roller derby fans. The Blue Ridge Rollergirls will continue the season with a bout on August 22, 2009 when they host the Greenville Derby Dames from Greenville, SC.
