An assortment:
-The festivals keep coming. This weekend, it’s Downtown After Five in Asheville (tonight); the Southeastern Energy Expo at the WNC Ag Center; and the N.C. State Bluegrass festival in Marion.
-Anyone eaten at Cheshire Village’s The Blackbird: A New American Tavern?
-The Paths Less Pedaled blog says Chattanooga lives in the shadow of Asheville. Interesting.
-The Colorful Palate catering crew has a new blog. A snippet:
We had the genuine pleasure of catering a wedding on Sunday evening at the NC Arboretum Baker Center and lawn. While Tara has run a couple of weddings out there (I was likely at another of our favorite venues in town), this was my first. I loved it! The lawn, adjacent to the Heritage Gardens, is so fantastic. With it’s curved pagoda, soothing water feature, metal roofed rain shed and elegantly casual landscaping complete with wind swayed metal sculptures, it was the perfect spot for a post ceremony cocktail hour (featuring our Black Eyed Pea Fritters and Southern Canapes, of course).

Yes my husband and I have been to Blackbird in Black Mountain several times. Loved everything we had. Great atmosphere, kind of a casual elegance to it. They actually have one of the better burgers in our area, but just as good is their duck confit, pasta dishes and brunch. Also, one of the owner's is the pastry chef and she is rightly famous for her triple chocolate torte. It is worth the drive and I am looking forward to going back.
I've eaten at the Blackbird Cafe, and I have to say it's one of my favorite restaurants in Black Mtn. The shrimp and grits are simply fantastic!
