As a number of bloggers have already noted, the North Carolina bill to lift the cap on alcohol content in beer from 6 percent to 15 percent has become law. Some are saying Gov. Easley actually signed the bill into law, rather than taking no action and allowing it to become law. I’ll have to check that.
Nonetheless, the drinkers of big beer are rejoicing at the slew of new choices they’ll have. Ashvegas is a huge beer town, and local brewers are ready to roll. A post on the beerinator.com message board says Highland Brewing has a Scotch Ale that’s ready to roll. It’s unclear if any big beers have official been served.
Another poster at beerinator.com says Pisgah Brewing is cooking up a double IPA. Here’s more:
Greenlife Grocery on Merrimon is concerned about shelf space. I talked to them on Saturday and they are concerned about what products they will have to get rid of. I think that this will be a problem at stores all over that just don’t have the room. Good news though that they had a taste testing that included Hop Devil and a Saison from Victory as well as several Belgians.
Dirty Jacks has a 9.4% Belgian Triple on tap, as well as an Imperial Stout. Hannah Flanagans is planning on having Chimay on tap this week.
So, it should be quite a fall beer drinking season here in Ashvegas. Go to Pop the Cap or beerinator.com for more.
