Beer City Asheville: news and notes

Share

Some of what I’ve picked up lately about the Asheville and Western North Carolina craft beer scene:

Beer City Brew Fest: So we have the date, but still no word on where it will be held, or where and when we can buy tickets. C’mon, people.

Going Green on St. Patrick’s Day: Green Man is brewing up a new stout for St. Patrick’s Day. Awesome.

Craggie going old school: Craggie Brewing tweets the following: “brewing two test batches of Antebellum ale: one using 100% organic ingredients, the other gluten free.”

Nantahala Brewing gets moving: Here are a couple of Facebook updates from Nantahala Brewing that are worth noting:

Exciting news today! We are finally ready to announce the Bryson City Brewhouse. So far, Watershed Cabins (watershedcabins.com), Paddlefish Kayaking & American Hikes (paddlefishbasecamp.com) and Wildwater Rafting (wildwaterrafting.com) have made the decision to move in. We still have space available. Interested? Let us know!

And

One more exciting bit of information for all those homebrewers in Jackson, Swain, Haywood and Graham Counties. We are including a homebrewing shop in the brewery. So, you’ll be able to buy your supplies for your next home brew day right here in Bryson City.

Bruisin for a tap: From the Bruisin’ Ales Beer Blog: “Jimi Rentz, owner of Barley’s Taproom in Asheville, gave us a really awesome opportunity: Our own tap downstairs! The Bruisin’ Ales Tap will be a regular feature from here on out of rare, limited, cool, and delicious brews outside the local/regional circle. Mixing a little variety into your local brews… first up? Dogfish Head Red & White! We’re hoping it will go on the beginning of next week!”

Avett in April: @ameliasmechanic tweets: w/ Jim Avett and Friends April 10 Pisgah Brewing Co.

Brewgrass music: The Infamous Stringdusters will be playing Brewgrass here in September. Who else is on the bill?

So far we have G-2, Swedish bluegrass, and local faves,Tom Godleleski and Buncombe Turnpike, as well as, The Fabulous Stringdusters lined up for Brewgrass. As far as Brewfest goes, we’re still working with the city for a where and how that is acceptable for a win/win situation. That announcement could come next week. Cheers.
