Arcade Asheville, which has been a hit since its doors opened at the start of the year, has decided to move to a private club. The announcement came via Facebook over the weekend, and Mountain Xpress followed up with an online post about the arcade change.
The effect is simple: no more food, essentially. Arcade Asheville had some fun dishes, including a killer bacon-infused mac-and-cheese and those glorious tachos. To be a member of the club, there’s a nominal fee and application to fill out. The move will also allow the arcade to better control who gets in – there have been some rowdy elements.
In other Asheville bar news, I caught some Twitter chatter the other day about the possibility of a laundromat bar coming to town. Don’t have any other details. I was trying to recall if Asheville ever had a laundry bar – it seems they were all the rage about 15 years ago. What do you think – would a suds-and-duds laundry fly in Asheville?

We were looking at the property at the corner of Patton and French Broad as a possible store location – that architecture firm, Bowers Ellis & Watson PA – and were told that the old scooter shop next door was being considered as the location of a Laundromat bar. Maybe they moved forward with their plans after we backed out of the deal. You should call them and find out.
Wasn't there a chain called Harvey Washbangers? I remembered it being self-defeating… your clothes would smell like cigarette smoke after going to them.
The pub and suds, it was on Hendersonville road new Turtle Creek Apartments.
It wasnt down town so it wasnt celebrated or considered cool . . But this time it will it will be celebrated like someone found a cure for a horrible disease
There was one in the Turtle Creek Shopping Center years ago. Not sure when it finally closed. I believe it was actually called "Suds 'n' Duds"
Hope the ARCADE is really doing this as a positive thing and not reacting to low profits.
A bar/laundry? I've always wondered why asheville didn't have one of those. Wonder where it would go?
I think there used to be one years ago in S. asheville down hendersonville rd. but one closer to downtown would be pretty great.
A laundry bar? Bring it on…especially if it means booze replaces the maniacal kids running, screaming and using the folding tables as jungle gyms.
