Avett Brothers recording new album in at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville

This comprehensive story by John Liberty of the Kalamazoo Gazette has the details. It’s an interview with Bob Crawford, who talks about preparing for the big snowstorm that hit Asheville on Jan. 10. The Avett Brothers planned to start work on their new album Jan. 11 in Asheville, according to the story.

Here’s more:

Crawford said the band set aside about two weeks to record the yet-to-be titled album that will again involve respected producer Rick Rubin and engineer Ryan Hewitt — both helped on the band’s last studio album, “I and Love and You,” which was recorded in the much warmer Malibu, Calif.

The Avett Brothers will then hit the road, including the first tour stop in Kalamazoo next week, so fans might get a glimpse of what’s to come.

“I’m sure we will (play new material),” Crawford said. “But we’re are also conscience to try and hold it back, too.”

As the band enters its 10th year together, The Avett Brothers — who will also be joined by cellist Joe Kwon and drummer Jacob Edwards — are reaching a larger audience after years building fans through independent releases and touring.

Crawford says the band has 30 songs up for consideration for the new record, but only about 12 will make it. Click over to read the full story.

Thank you this band is soooo overrated . . . .

The fact that they have WNCW's #1 album for the fourth year in a row either just ads to my being mystified over what all the fuss is about, or it is just another reminder of how far the once mighty WNCW has fallen in recent years. More likely, both.

The fuss is that they write banal, pussywhipped lyrics for banal, pussywhipped sensitive guys who never get the girl because they are such banal pussywhipped people.

I've been thinking that the core followers of this boy band are mostly males in their 30s and 40s, not the younger mixed audiences I would expect. They are kinda southern and from NC, but pretty mainstream in their sound and appeal (country, folk, pop rock). They definitely peaked a couple years back, and more regional these days. The Avett Bros are ok, but noting to get all worked up over.

I'm with you Greg. After all this time I am still trying to figure out what all the fuss about this band is.

I don't know. They played the Westville Pub the first week my store was open. I don't have a point, but I wish them well.

I am getting sick of the Avett Brothers.

I was wondering how they found the time to write songs while constantly being on the road, but then I realized that they had stolen my 13 year-old niece's diary.
